I see a number of mentions for text apps in here. I was using one before I had to reset my phone, and now that one won't work for me anymore. You guys have any recommendations for cheap or free text apps?

Burner is a good choice

I have both Burner and Textnow.
I find Burner is glitchy sometimes and loses connection to their server, leaving messages hanging or blank text history.
Textnow seems more reliable but sometimes the incoming texts don't come in in the correct order.
I still use both.

Textme now is great and free!
There are ads and it does use wifi/data but still great!

Agree, been using Burner for a long time now, works good most of the time, though sometimes I think the network gets overloaded (Fri/Sat?) and messages get lost; seems to be a recent problem.

A good solution is just buying a cheap pay as you go sim and throwing it in an old cell phone or putting in your main phone for the duration of your hobbying that day
