DM's stuck in outbox

Hey ,
Please delete this if this is not the place to write this.
My private messages get sent to my outbox when I click submit and just stay there. Is there a reason for this?

This comes up periodically. For example: https://www.torontobbfs.cc/viewtopic.php?p=26843
The short version - that's just the way phpBB works. The DM stays in the outbox until it's been opened by the recipient. This behaviour seems to confuse everyone except for the developer who programmed it that way, but phpBB is stuck with it. </shrug>
